Early October is the best time to see the fall colors along the eastern slope of the Sierra so we’ve been wanting to do this trip ever since our last trip in May of 2019 to Lone Pine.
We managed to get a reservation for a new campsite at East Meadows campground for the first week in October just before they closed. With cancellations due to Covid and fires, plus an abnormally large number of people camping this year,
This year we did our annual birthday hike in mid-September 2020. A very strange and challenging year with Covid, California fires, racial unrest in the country and the presidential election.
Due to the Covid and lately because of forest fires and excessive smoke, this was the first time we got to camp at Jackson Meadows this year. May be the last time because my favorite site is all booked up thru the close in early October.
On August 10th we ventured back to Loon Lake to meet up with a bunch of friends.
Our second camping trip this year was back to Loon Lake. Site #16, right across from our friends Gary and Cheryl. They camp in site #15 giving us direct access to the lake.

This year for Kate’s birthday (Halloween), we went up to Fort Bragg and camped in MacKerritcher State Park for three nights. No dogs this time so we brought the jeep and bikes.
We left Fish Lake on a newly paved forest road 640, 28 miles to hwy 70. Very scenic and nice road. I had been told at the Bryce visitor center that it was now paved and excellent for aspen autumn leaves.
After Hole in the Rock, we went on to a boondocking site in the FishLake National forest. I got the idea for the first site in this national forest from vbloggers, Fate Unbound.
