Because of the many years of drought here in California, millions of pine trees have been killed from Bark Beetle infestation. On our property we had eleven trees that were dead or dying. We hired Ross Lee of American River Tree to do the work. They did an excellent job. Took them only a day and a half to complete, leaving the area spotless. The wood is left in the corner of our property to probably just rot away. Too much wood from these trees available now, and access to ours is quite difficult being at the back of our property, therefore very little demand for our wood. We don’t have a fireplace or wood burning stove so it will just go back into fertilizing the earth.
The following movie I took with my camera, cell phone and drone. There were several shots, in retrospect, I wish I had taken. One was from the drone looking down on a tree as it was falling, I didn’t have the camera on. Another was a great shot of Ross and Eric feeding an entire skinny tree into the chipper. And the other one I missed was Ross repelling down an 80-100 foot tree after trimming the branches off.
So here is the movie. Music is a little strange, but I wanted to use something quite contrary to the situation, like an operatic aria but couldn’t find anything that was not copyright protected in that realm.
You did an amazing job!
It’s SO sad!! Sorry for your tree loss. I’m sure it hurts.
There were so many cut down and need to be cut down trees in Yosemite, you wonder if there will be anything left. I pretty much doubt it.
SO sad!!!!
Neat video Geoff
Ashame you didn’t have anyplace to burn all of the pine wood.
Sounds like a large job in a day & a half. Keep on making all
of these super videos & related stories. Looking forward to
your next nature video.
Take care. Brother George.
