Bucks Lake Campout

I wanted to try a new lake so my neighbor Mike suggested Bucks Lake, in the northern top quarter of California, slightly southeast of Lassen National Park.  So Mike took his pop up camper and I took Bertha and the dogs.  About a three hour ride with some quite curvy climbs on the last 10 miles to the lake.  We were lucky and got two awesome sites right on the water, next to each other.  The lake was huge, and I prefer interesting shoreline for kayaking.  We went out exploring one day with my fishfinder and I really didn’t see many fish.  Not enough to warrant paddling a long distance just to get started.  The shoreline was sandy so it was great for the dogs to play in.  All in all, I don’t think I will go back any time soon.  A long drive for a so-so lake.  Actually Lower Bucks Lake would have been nicer for kayaking but only a couple campsites, a bad road, and tough turn around.  We stayed at Sundew campground and it was the best of the bunch, in my mind.

Heres a one minute video of Ben and Charlie romping in the lake:

  1. Hey Geoff
Your doggies love the lake swimming & playing in the muddy shore. Unfourtunately, a long drive for a smallish Lake & not very hot fishing.

I would love to see the lake & country around the lake side.. Next time send more videos if possible. Thanks for the photos.

    Brother George.
